Arabic Keyboard Online

Type in Arabic without installing anything. Click the keys, use your own keyboard with the standard Arabic layout, or type phonetically (b → ب). Then copy your text or translate it.

Tip: with Arabic layout, your physical keyboard types like a standard Arabic keyboard (q = ض, a = ش …). Hold Shift for vowel marks. With Phonetic, type how it sounds: b = ب, sh = ش, kh = خ, 3 = ع, 7 = ح.

Arabic Letters

Getting to know the Arabic keyboard

01

28 letters, written right to left

Arabic has 28 letters and is written from right to left. Most letters connect to the next one, so a letter's shape changes depending on where it sits in a word. The keyboard handles that automatically.

02

Vowel marks are optional

Short vowels are written as small marks above or below letters: َ fatḥa (a), ِ kasra (i) and ُ ḍamma (u). Everyday Arabic usually leaves them out; textbooks and the Quran include them.

03

Hamza and its seats

The glottal stop hamza (ء) can sit on its own or on an alif (أ إ), a waw (ؤ) or a yāʾ (ئ). They're all on the keyboard, with آ (alif madda) for a long "ā" at the start of words.

04

Arabic numerals

The top row types Eastern Arabic digits (١٢٣), used across Egypt, the Levant and the Gulf. Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia mostly use the same 0–9 digits as English.
