Muslims celebrate two Eids. Eid al-Fitr (عيد الفطر) marks the end of Ramadan, and Eid al-Adha (عيد الأضحى) falls during Hajj and commemorates Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice. Greetings start after the Eid prayer in the morning and continue through the visits that follow, often for three days.
تقبل الله منا ومنكم is the oldest of these greetings. According to reports collected by Ibn Hajar, the Prophet's companions would say it to each other when they met on Eid. Many families still say it first, then follow with Eid Mubarak or Kul 'am wa antum bikhair.
Eid is a time for visiting relatives, new clothes and giving children money, called عيدية (ʿīdiyya). If you're not Muslim, a simple Eid Mubarak to friends and coworkers is warmly received.
